Sierra walked into the barn, long hair loose and swaying. She had the norm, jeans, boots, and a light shirt that looked nice on her, but she just thought was comfortable. Sierra took a deep breath as she entered, taking in the scent of horses again. It had been a while since she had been in the home barn, and memories of her paint mare, Cochise. The two had shared a sad goodbye... But back to the present. She needed a job, and horses was the only way to go. Hopefully they had some places open at this place. It sure did seem empty. "Hello? Is anyone here?" Her voice had a slight spanish accent, mixed with.. maybe mid-western. "Anyone?"

I heard someone in the barn, shouting. I rolled my eyes and heaved up the saddle. I carried it back into the barn and stared at the girl. I dropped the saddle on the gate and leaned against it. Can I help you? I asked, rubbing my hands together. I stood up straight and entered Sandy's stable. Sandy snorted and moved to the back of the stable, she hated saddles and she didn't want to be broke, but someone had to do it, and it just had to be me!

"Hi there. My name is Sierra. I came too see if there were any job openings here." She looked at the paint filly in the stall, and sized her up in a glance. "She's pretty. How old? Three, maybe four?" Sierra knew horses, that was for sure. Her best guess was that the filly was stubborn, and didn't want to be broke. She reminded Sierra of Cochise when she was a filly, but Sierra had been calm, and the two had befriended each other. "Lot's of spirit. I can tell that right now." She had momentarly forgotten that she was looking for a job.

I walked slowly towards Sandy, my hand streached out to touch her neck. She took a deep breath and snorted as my skin touched her coat. I smiled and spoek in a soothing voice. There's a good girl! I looked back at Sierra and grabbed Sandy's halter. I pulled her towards the saddle and let her sniff it. I stood with her for a few seconds then looked back up. There's a couple of jobs going spair, but the manager is out and I'm the only hand he's got! I'm Odette, and today, Sandy is going to have her 12th attempt at being broken. I said, rubbing her mane. I didn't want to do it, but it had to be done. I let go of her and exited the stall, closing it behind me and sighing. This the second job I have, I'm a stripper at Ball Busters and I wanted this job because I have a horse boarded here and need to pay it somehow!

Sierra raised an eyebrow when she herd Odette was a stripper, but wasn't too surprised. She was.. pretty enough, that was for sure. "May I give it a shot?" Without waiting for an answer, she started working with the filly. "Hey, pretty girl. You don't wanna be broke, do ya, pretty Sandy?" She slowly put a hand out and stroked the horses cheek, making sure she was standing to the side of the horse and her eyes were averted. "How about we make friends, huh? A pretty girl like you must have lots of friends." Sierra kept her voice soft, but started talking to Odette. "I would love to help out. I train, ride, give lessons, I would be willing to lead trail rides too, once I get to know the area."

I thought about what the girl was saying. I took a deep breath and then looked at the other horses. Well, you sound like a good candidate for a hand. But, you need to learn the area. There are two trails nearby, one leads to the beach, another to the coves! You can tack up one of the horses and we can go riding together if you want! Sandy can wait till later, the boss needs to be there anyway. I said. My eyes jumped back to Sierra.

Sierra stepped away from Sandy. "That would be great. Does it matter which one of the horses I ride? I've had my eye on that big black Arabian there." She said, and pointed to the black Arabian in a nearby stall. She liked the spirit she saw in him, and thought that he would be a good ride for her. "May I?"

I looked across at the stag and then back at Sierra. Go ahead! His names Midnight Shadow, and he's a handful! You need to be careful with him! Follow me and I'll get you his tack! I'll be riding Treacle anyway!

Sierra nodded and followed Odette to the tack room. It was relatively neat, it actually looked better then the one at home, which had saddles thrown every which way. "Nice barn you have. Pretty organized."

I smiled as I took Treacles halter and reigns and threw them over the saddle. I hoisted it up and nodded over at a saddle already with the reigns over. That's Midnights stuff, take it back to the barn. I said, walking back out the door.

"Thanks. I'll get him ready." Sierra picked up the tack, as well as a grooming kit. She walked to Midnight's stall and led him out, cross-tying him before she got to work. After a quick grooming, she picked his hooves. The whole time, Sierra was talking to the Arabian as if he understood exactly what she was saying. She placed the saddle pad carefully on Midnight's back, after checking for burs, and put the saddle on, tightening the girth easily. "Very funny." She poked his belly gently, and he exhaled. Nimble hands pulled the girth tighter another notch. "That's better." She patted his shoulder, and grabbed his bridle. After a spirited toss of the head, Sierra was able to fit on the bridle and pull his long black forelock loose. "There. You're a gorgeous boy." She took the rest of the halter off and grabbed Midnight's reins. "I'm all ready!"
